How it works

The KamAlert smart-phone application turns your mobile phone into a 24 hour PROPERTY SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM and an INSTANT PERSONAL ALARM SYSTEM, at the touch of a button.

Compatible Phones

It is planned for KamAlert to work with most smart phones with camera and Internet connection. There is a test programme that can be downloaded to confirm your phone is supported.

Surveillance Mode

When this mode is activated, the camera detects any continuous motion or change in light, and immediately takes photos or a video of the intruder(s). It sequentially sends SMS text messages, and photos/video via emails, to the programmed contacts.

Once movement has been detected, a Ringtone will sound (optional). If you do not cancel the alarm during the following Delay Time (adjustable in Settings), the application will send the SMS texts and emails (with photos or video) to the pre-programmed numbers.

After sending all messages and photos/video, an Alarm Siren will sound (optional).

To prevent warning intruders of the surveillance, such as in the case of protecting empty premises, the Ringtones and the Siren can be de-activated.

In case of a false alarm or when you need to routinely turn the alarm off (e.g. in the morning), you can enter your PIN number (input in Settings) and cancel the surveillance.

For better nighttime motion detection and photo/video conditions, a small light should be left on in the room under surveillance. The strength of the light will depend on your phone camera type and will probably need some trial and error testing. If there is not enough light, your Phone will emit an intermittent beep. Should this occur, you should exit the application, increase the light intensity and try again

It is recommended that the phone charger be used at all times with the device in Surveillance mode.

INCOMING CALLS – while KamAlert is in the Surveillance mode, incoming calls will cause automatic suspension of the alarm. This will be automatically reactivated as soon as calls are finished or messages received.

Depending on the mode in use, the email texts sent will include your name, telephone number and your address or location (if GPS is active). Example texts are shown in the Operating Instructions page.

Medical Emergency and Personal Danger  Modes

This mode allows you to quickly summon help in distress situations. By selecting either the Medical Emergency or Personal Danger Buttons on the home page of KamAlert, the phone screen will change to a "Help Button" that, if selected, will send SMS messages and emails to the contacts input into the Settings. You have the choice of up to three contacts for each of the Medical and Personal Danger modes.

Normally, one of the contacts in the Medical Emergency mode will be assigned to the relevant authority (e.g. Ambulance Service) and one of the contacts in the Personal Danger mode will be assigned to the Police.

However, this is a user preference option and other contacts may be used instead.

If the Ringtone Siren is selected ON in the settings, the Siren will sound as soon as you activate the single Medical or Panic Button.

In case of a false alarm, you can deactivate the alarm by entering your PIN number on the screen that will appear immediately after you press the "Help Button".

General

Emergency Telephone Calls

Note that in all modes of KamAlert, there is the option to make one telephone call automatically per emergency. Your phone will place a phone call to the contact chosen after having sent the emails. However, if activated, there will be no prerecorded message, and the contact will only hear your voice or whatever other sounds your phone picks up real-time. Only one voice-call can be made per emergency.

Texts

Depending on the mode in use, the email texts sent will include your name, telephone number and your address or location (if GPS is active). Example texts are shown in the Operating instructions page.

Options

In all modes, for each person in your contact settings, there is an ON/OFF toggle switch for each of the SMS, email and Telephone Call features.
